Continuing the Connection - a message to students
During these trying times, we need a sense of connection more
than ever—connection with each other and connection with God in
prayer. So I wanted to take a moment to let you know that your
parish, St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament; our pastor, Father
Cesta and our team of catechists stand ready to assist you in your
quest for remaining calm and strong and maintaining loving, faith-
filled relationships with others and with our God.
It is important for you to know that we don't want your faith
journey to be put on hold because covid is in our world now. It is
during this time that we want you to know how much God is there
for you as well as all of us at MTC/BLS. This a a great acronym to
remember during this Corona Virus time that we are in. It is from
Pastor Max Lucado. He has an acronym during this Corona Virus
time that we remain. It is CALM.
- Celebrating God's goodness,
- Asking for His help,
- Leaving your concerns to Him,
- Meditating on good things
you know that God is always by your side.
Stay safe
A Teen Support Guide to Navigating Coronavirus
Resources and suggestions for teens on how to take care of themselves and each other.
Contributed by Brett Lubarsky and Dana Roth,
The uncertainty of this global health crisis is hard and stressful, as
information changes by the day. Here are some resources to help support and connect our community as we navigate these challenging times. We are all in this together!
Be intentional about what you’re looking at.There’s a lot of information out there—especially on social media, and not all of it is factual. Be aware of where you’re getting your information and the credibility of those sources. When possible, look to the experts. For example, check out the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, Coronavirus Resource Center from Johns Hopkins University and Medicine and NPR’s A Comic Exploring Coronavirus.
Take care of yourself.
During times of stress and uncertainty, it’s important to pay attention to your health and wellness. Yes, please wash your hands (!), and many of us are feeling a sense of frustration, anxiety, loss and/or disorientation because of the disruption in our normal schedules and absence of familiar activities and spaces. With events, programs and gatherings being canceled or postponed indefinitely, it’s OK to feel the feels.
Consider trying meditation or mindfulness to help calm and center yourself. Looking for different ways to help the process? Apps like Headspace and Calm provide many convenient options right on your phone or tablet. Also, get up and move! Go for a walk or run, sit outside and get some fresh air or take a bike ride.
Talk to your friendsCheck in on your friends. Connect with family members, trusted adults, clergy, youth professionals and close friends—and don’t be afraid to reach out if you have questions or need support.
Connection can happen in different ways.Where and how can you share moments with friends? Gaming communities are growing and connect us in new ways while building in Minecraft or competing in e-sports. Pour or make a cup of your drink of choice and have a virtual “coffee date” with a friend over Zoom, Skype, FaceTime or another communication platform.
Looking for other ideas? Check out this list
Virtual Get Together or Programming Ideas
Plan your get together or program as you typically would, you’ll need a program plan and marketing to go out! Use Zoom Video Numbers (first come first serve), Skype, Kast, or FaceTime Group Video Calls.
1) Zoom Silent Disco—we all love dancing, so why not do it with your friends? For a zoom silent disco, create a Spotify/apple music playlist with all your favorite songs, then share that playlist with all your friends. Then, get on a Zoom call with your friends, pop your headphones in, and get dancing!
a) Hop on a zoom call with your friends
b) Everyone downloads the app “Pulse Social Radio” to listen together
c) One person creates a station, and sends it out to their friends
d) Everyone adds songs to the station, and dance away!

2) Live Stream a favorite show and keep the chat open—Everyone loves a movie night, and those movie nights are even more fun with your friends!
